by Leo Galleguillos

During the early 1900s, diseases were sweeping away human life. A healthy person back then was defined as one who was free of disease and illness. It was diseases such as pneumonia, influenza, and tuberculosis that were major threats to people of all ages.

Medical Advances

As you already know, medical advances and health-related discoveries are being found everyday. Today, many common diseases of the early 1900s can now be prevented, cured, or do not exist at all.

Health Today

Today, being healthy not only means one is free of disease or illness, but it also means that person has healthy physical, intellectual, social, and emotional behavior. Practicing healthy behavior often affects your life on the long term. The more healthy your habits, the longer and better your life will be.

Life Expectancy

Life expectancy in 1900 was 47 years. Today, most people live an average of 75 years when maintaining good health. The life expectancy goes up at a steady rate every year. Could you image what it would be like if your great grandchildren were expected to live for 150 years?
