Homework Help: Health: Physical Fitness: Benefits of Fitness

by Sarah Haltshire

1.a. Why does your heart rate increase when exercising?

Your heart rate increases when exercising so that the heart can supply more blood to working muscles, supply oxygen and nutrients, and take away waste products.

1.b. What effect does carrying extra weight have on your heart?

Carrying extra weight puts extra stress on your heart. It is because when you are carrying weight, the heart has to work harder to move it.
This puts you at risk of having heart disease. Losing weight helps your heart stay healthy. It is a proven fact that obese heart attack patients are eight years younger than those of normal weight.

1.c. What other factors affect heart rate?

-Fatigue
-Heat and/or Dehydration
-Humidity
-Stress
-Your health

1.d. What are the physiological benefits of regular exercise?

Exercise makes your heart stronger, and pumps blood quicker, it then circulates oxygen faster around your body, which helps it function efficiently. Regular exercise also lowers your risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure, and reduces levels of LDL (bad cholesterol). It also raises HDL (good cholesterol). Regular exercise, combined with a healthy diet, can help with weight loss.

2. Benefits of Fitness Investigation

Investigate a situation which is helped by regular exercise. Outline the type of exercise and training program suitable for the situation you have chosen, with information about where to find help. At least 2 references must be used, and included in a bibliography.

OBESITY

Obesity is a condition caused by excess body fat.
