"Under Pressure"
I looked up at the local newsagents. The words on the sign "The old store" now read "he old ore" as it was buried in dust and grime. I looked back a Jell, Spike and Musty, for two years I had wanted to be in their gang and now it had all come down to this. "Go on you big chicken" said Spike pushing me forward. Jell and Musty were behind him flapping their arms pretending to be chickens. My hands were sweaty and my cheeks were rosy pink. I took a slow step into the shop. It felt like the shop was a giant hungry monster and it was eating me for it’s lunch.
I looked around the newsagents there was no one to be seen. I wanted to get it over with then I would be officially in Spikes gang. But the only thought going through my head was what if I get caught? If I did get caught I know the gang would blame it on me, say it was all my fault and they had nothing to do with it, they always did. They did when we through eggs at Mr Smith’s car, when we painted the phone box blue and when they flushed Mrs Chill’s car keys down the loo.
I looked back up at the desk there was still no one around. "I can do it!" I whispered in my head slowly walking over to the rack of sweets. I stood for what seemed like a lifetime staring at the rack and then at the door. I then heard someone coming up the stairs from the store room. I filled my bag with sweets, gum and chocolate bars and ran out of the shop.
The gang were waiting outside on the pavement trying to look innocent by casually whistling. But all the people walking past stared at them suspiciously. "Did you get it?" said Spike grabbing my bag and rummaging through it. "Good, good" he said slyly. Jell and Musty stood behind him smirking. They then pushed me to the floor kicked me in the back and ran off with the bag. I lay on the floor pain shooting up my spine. I kept my eyes tightly hoping, praying that this was all a dream.
I then felt a tap on my shoulder. "Are you alright dear?" said an old lady. I sprung to my feet not wanting her to know anything was wrong. "Yes I’m fine thanks," I said trying desperately to smile. She stared at me for a few seconds and then walked off. I stared after her wanting to tell her that I wasn’t fine and what Jell, Spike and Musty had done to me but I knew I couldn’t.
I sat on a bench beside me and thought hard for hours. If I told someone about the gang, Jell, Spike and Musty would say that I had stolen the sweets and that they had nothing to do with it. I was so upset and confused. I didn’t know what to do. I just wished I had done the right thing under pressure.
I chose this topic for my story because I was the first thing that came into my mind when I heard the title. I think that it is a very important issue and that you should never be forced to steal or do something you know is wrong.
