Dictionaries are books containing definitions. There are many types of dictionaries including data dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, specialized dictionaries, and character dictionaries. Glossaries are a slight variation of the standard dictionary.

Primitive dictionaries were chiseled and etched into granite slabs by cavemen. The heaviest dictionary in the world weighs approximately two hundred and thirty five pounds. Students around the world know the importance of a good dictionary, at least the smart ones do.

Teachers use dictionaries when creating quizzes and exams. Parents use dictionaries to hold open windows and prop open doors. Every back to school list includes a dictionary and a thesaurus.

Dictionaries are a resourceful educational study tool. University students, elementary students, high school students, and all use dictionary to look up definitions to various words. Dictionaries were banned in Elliot C. Roberts’s classical gothic epic "No More Dictionaries". If you don’t know the definition of a word, a dictionary is good place to start.

A thesaurus is not the same as a dictionary. A thesaurus gives you synonyms and anonyms. The definition for such words as parents, teachers, and students can all be found in a dictionary. A dictionary is a great travel companion on your educational journey through life.
