Paper comes in all shapes, colors and sizes. Most paper is used for writing on. Other kinds of paper can be used for painting, coloring and various artwork.

Standard notebook paper comes marked with blue horizontal lines. A red vertical line on the left side oftentimes marks the indentation.

Plain white paper, which is most commonly used for computer printouts and photo copies, is 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches tall. Almost anything looks good on plain white paper. Everything from plain text to colorful photos can be printed on plain white paper.

Other kinds of paper may vary in shape, color and size. For example, circular paper (paper cut in the shape of a circle) can be used for a notepad or pie chart. Construction paper comes in all sorts of colors in order to make arts and crafts.

Paper generally does not vary much in thickness.
