Homework Help: School Supplies: Pencils
A pencil is a tool usually used to draw precise lines. Sometimes pencils can be used for shading. Pencils should not be used for poking holes (or people).
The standard issue pencil is the most popular pencil in the world. It has a fine tip of lead pointing out at one end, and a bright pink eraser at the other. Since the pencil is made of wood and the point becomes dull after little use, these pencils must be sharped by a pencil sharpener fairly often.
There are of course other wooden pencils of various diameters that are usually used in arts and crafts. Thicker pencils may be used for drawing thick lines or for shading. Thinner pencils may be used to draw precise lines or traces that are hard to see.
Colored pencils are also fun. Clearly, these pencils are used for drawing various-colored lines. These pencils can be used for shading in as well.
Since the inception of mechanical pencils, sales of pencil sharpeners have declined slightly. However, artists always insist on using wooden pencils because the tip can be shaped to any form desired.
