Homework Help: School Supplies: Ruler

Ruler is a device that measures distances. Rulers were originally constructed from animal bones. There are different types of rulers. Straight edge rulers are the most common for educational purposes.

A ruler can also mean an individual in charge. Today rulers are everywhere, classrooms, offices, homes, etc… Rulers can be made out of wood or plastic. Almost every back to school list includes a ruler. Catholic nuns use rulers as disciplinary devices by striking the back of student’s knuckles.

The gradients on a ruler can be in inches or it can be metric. Metric rulers use units of tens to measure distance. The Tailoring industry use rulers made out of cloth and are extremely flexible.

Plastic rulers are molded, cut, and then printed upon. Wood rulers are made from wood. Teachers use rulers to make a point. The golden rule is not really a ruler at all.

Two rulers strewn tightly together can be used as a splint in an emergency. Rulers caught in a tornado have been clocked at speeds in excess of 300 miles an hour. Upon impact wooden rulers have a propensity for creating splinters.
