Homework Help: Science: Biology: Scientific Method
by Leo Galleguillos
The scientific method, by definition, is a system of asking questions, developing explanations, and testing those explanations against the reality of the natural world. Depending on who your science teacher is, there are usually around 4 to 7 steps involved in the scientific method. As you will soon read, the scientific method is like "organized common sense," said by Claude Villee.
The first step of the scientific method is to identify the problem. Without identifying the problem, you wouldn't know what the purpose of your experiment is.
Next comes the hypothesis. The hypothesis is like your prediction or possible explanation to the problem.
Then, you must conduct your experimentation. Experimentation includes actually doing the experiment along with good amounts of research.
Last comes your conclusion. Some teachers also include a solution, but it's not one of the scientific method's main areas. The conclusion is like the final and absolute answer to your problem. For a correct conclusion, you must usually conduct your experiment at least 3 times. Then your conclusion can become a theory.
Remember that the scientific method is the best way to solve many problems or answer many questions. People all around the world use the scientific method everyday, and you've probably used it before too, without even knowing it.
