Homework Help: Social Studies: World Issues: Racism and It's Many Problems
br Aaron Truong
A tremendous number of people had died trying to end racism. Their
braveries' had withdrawn them from the catalogue of the living. It brings
tears to my eyes, acknowledging the fact that people died trying to seek
freedoms, the freedom that they should already have as a human being.
Emancipations, freedoms of speech, and the right to be equal, are what
people are longing for. The past had created an ocean of blood that will
never be forgotten. The discrimination that they had rendered is far more
horrific than I can ever imagine. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many other
philanthropists had died trying to revise this world. They are the people
who I admired and give the greatest amount of respect. Their generosity and
contributions to this world had led me to believe that there is a chance
for peace.
Living in today's society we have few worries of discriminations. There
are many laws that can protect us from the prejudice thoughts and action
that people posses. The justice system had improved significantly in the
last 40-50 years. I admit that introducing the Charter of Rights and
Freedoms had change a great deal of peoples' perspectives toward people of
different skin colour. However, the truth is, racism still exists in our
everyday life. I see it happening in schools. A great number of students
had complained, they have been placed in a special education program that
they feel is unnecessary. The Boards of Education assumed that every person
whom Immigrated to Canada will occupy poor English skills. I find it quit
amusing that the school board would assume things that are not true.
From experiences, I believe that every race or nationality poses a special
and unique talents that our country may benefit from it considerably. To be
racist and carry hatred, will only be use to disadvantage. It often creates
retaliations, violence, tragedy, and ultimately,.... wars. The past had
been a great example of a world of hatreds. From Hitler's Holocaust, to the
Ku Klux Klan, and then the Rodney King?s beating. It was this beating that
causes an outrageous riot that claimed 54 deaths, 2,000 injured, and a city
tearing itself apart. The police's act was obviously an act of
preconceptions. Police officers were alway knowing as the peace keepers,
role model for our citizens, and to serve and protect. What they have done
to Rodney King's body was brutal and unforgiven. The retaliation that the
authorities received from the anger people was not really a surprised.
What I felt sorry for, are not the people who started the violent but for
the poor civilian of the city who had been killed in this atrocious
violent. My condolence goes out to the people of the city who had died in
this incident.
What we have established is that racism does not solve anything it only
creates tragedy. Let's do something new. Let's abandon our weapons, our
hatred, our narrow-mindedness, and create more friends of different
colours. Discovering the amazing culture of each individual. I encourage
people to take world religion, and other relative courses that educate
people the wide diversity of talents that we can acquire. We can learn how
to make more variety of foods, more languages to obtain, and learning the
fascinating holidays that people celebrate every year. What we can learn
from other races and culture is endless.
