Hi: The series is alternating of the form(a_n)*(-1)^n, where a_n = e^n/n^3. Because limit (n->inf)[a_n] not= 0 (a_n->inf as n->inf}, the series diverges. Regards, Rich B.
Hi: You are correct. The test criteria are, 1) The terms a_n are of decreasing sequence; clearly 1/(3n+1) is decreasing on [1, inf]. 2) Limit(n->inf)[a_n] = 0. Both criteria having been met, we conclude convergence. Regards, Rich B.
mk-tintin: Yes, of course. However, as another member writes, I assume one understands my meaning specifically as irreducible over the rationals, Q. Rich B.
Hi: Given 12^2 = x(x+6), we have 144 = x^2 + 6x. Now, setting one side equal to zero gives x^2 + 6x - 144 = 0. The quadratic is not factorable (do you know why?) so we use the quadratic formula to get, x = 0.5[-6 +/- sqrt(36 - 4(-144))] = 0.5[-6 +/-
