what geographical features create natural boundaries for water to flow toward one ocean or another?

Water flows down hill, so rivers can't climb up mountains and hills.

How about mountain ranges for example ?

As water cannot flow uphill, high points in the land such as mountain ridges create natural "divides". These are boundaries that direct where water flows.
