Appalachian State University is best known for its football program, which competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Mountaineers have won three consecutive FCS National Championships (2005, 2006, 2007) and have made seven appearances in the FCS National Championship Game. The school also fields teams in men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf, and cross country.
