Gel electrophoresis is a technique used by molecular biologists to analyze samples of DNA or proteins. DNA was collected from the scene of a crime. Gel electrophoresis was used to compare the crime scene DNA to the victim’s DNA along with the two suspects of the crime.

Figure 1 shows the gel sheet after each sample was run. Table 1 shows the distance each band traveled from the origin. The samples were run in the same gel with a DNA standard marker for comparison. Table 2 shows the results of the standard.

The DNA markers at the crime scene match the DNA markers of

suspect 2 and the victim. The DNA markers of suspect 1 do not match the crime scene DNA or the victim's DNA. It is likely that suspect 2 is the perpetrator of the crime based on the gel electrophoresis results.
